Hair Growth Oil for baby

No2’s hair has been growing in patches and I’ve been a little worried. My mom recommended I get a nutmeg oil to help it along.

I searched online and decided to try Mama Dont Worry hair growth oil. Its an organic product, containing nutmeg oil and papaya seeds. Adults can use it as well.

Baby has now been using about 3 weeks and I see growth on the sides of her head. But there is very little growth the back of her head. Perhaps need to use for a longer period and more consistently. I tend to be a bit lazy at the weekends 😉

Fishball and Oyster Mushroom soup

No1 loves fishballs and mushrooms so I often have some variation of these two. I cooked this recently and she loves it, even the soup.

200g fishballs
150g oyster mushrooms
1 chicken cube
1 tsp chopped garlic
800ml of water*
1/2 tbsp fish sauce*
1/2 tbsp soy sauce*

*Measurements are estimated. I usually do a taste test, and adjust accordingly.

  1. Heat a little bit of cooking oil (perhaps 5-cents size).
  2. Add garlic and 1 chicken cube. Stir-fry until chicken cube is dissolved.
  3. Add water, fish sauce and soy sauce. Stir and let cook to a boil
  4. Add fishballs and oyster mushrooms. Cook until both fishballs and mushrooms are cooked. I usually wait until the fishballs are all floating and soup is boiling again.

A few days ago, we gave No2 one of these rice rusks since she has been showing interest in food and trying to grab the food we eat.

She was surprised at first but was happily sucking on the rusk and got upset when the rusk slipped out her mouth. She was supervised the whole time, of course. We have to hand her the rusk every time she drops it.

Seeing her so excited about food reminds me how No1 was before she bacame a picky eater. I hope No2 will be adventurous with new tastes.

Since turning 4, No1 has been more open to trying new foods or re-trying foods she may have turned down before.

Next on the menu for No2 will be carrots!

The (never-ending) laundry

When I had 1 child, I did laundry 3 times a week. When No2 came along, it became every other day. Imagine washing 1 day and folding next day, it was just endless laundry.

I live in one of the new BTO flats and there’s only 6 poles that I can fill up at any one point. So, we decided to invest in one of those Korean laundry racks so I can do at least twice the amount of laundry.

The first weekend after that new laundry rack arrived, I did 2 rounds of laundry on Saturday and another 2 rounds on Sunday. That was how much backlog I have for skipping a couple of days of laundry. The clothes from Saturday dried out nicely thanks to the hot sun. So, I managed to clear out all my laundry baskets (for once).

I was not the only one happy about this. My husband was so relieved that I was no longer so anxious about laundry. It also frees up my time so we can have a bit more time before bed with the kids. 🙂

As of today, I am doing laundry, once a week, usually Sunday.. and maybe 1 more time on a weekday.

Hello and 1st time making slime

I’m a working mom with 2 kids. I’m living in Singapore in my little matchbox flat. I try my best (try being the important keyword here) to cook for my little monkeys and play and do fun activities with them. I started this blog, sort of to chronicle a little bit of it.

My kids are 5 years (No1) and 6 months (No2) old.

Yesterday, we finally got round to making slime. No1 has been asking persistently for a LONG time and I finally gave in. It was a sticky mess and No1 probably did not know of the labour that it will take. You watch the videos and they look so easy, cos they usually cut to AFTER they have kneaded that mess into slime. And with No2 down with the flu and hubby out at work, it was definitely not a good idea.

So I did get impatient with the whole process but No1 was looking at me with those expectant eyes. So, I ended up working on the mess while she gives me moral support. “It’s getting harder to mix, Mama! You are good at this!” We ended up with a consistency that was thicker than glue but I’m not convinced it’s become slime. But it was our first effort.

Lesson learnt: Just enroll in a class with my child to learn how to make slime. I saw an arts studio at AMK Hub offering this class at $20 but not sure if they are still running these sessions. No more slime DIY until I have this class. Too much uncertainty (do I put more solution? more glue? more mixing?) and too much of a mess.

Well, at least I tried.
